About Jacob Wan – Lighting and Projection Designer in Vancouver

Jacob Wan is a Vancouver-based lighting and projection designer originally from Hong Kong. He specializes in lighting and projection design. His notable projects encompass lighting design for Cranked (2021, Green Thumb Theatre) and Echoes From Far Away City (2022, Blackout Theatre), as well as serving as assistant lighting designer for Cipher (2020, Arts Club Theatre).

Jacob is passionate about integrating theatrical lighting into various performing arts platforms. He believes that live performances should offer audiences an immersive storytelling experience through innovative lighting and projection design. He loves to create a world that allows audience to experience an immerse storytelling from the performance. In 2019, Jacob collaborated with artist Clive Hicks-Jenkins and the UBC School of Music to create an interactive projection performance.

Actively engaged in the Vancouver theatre scene, Jacob also designed productions in Hong Kong and earned professional certificates from the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts.

Jacob holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Design and Production from the University of British Columbia (2020) and is a full member of the Associated Designers of Canada.
